New Plan

Last night I had rehearsals from 9:30 pm - 11:30 pm, and when I got back to my apartment I was so exhausted. So that is why I didn't co-wash my hair last night. This morning I decided that I was just going to not co-wash this week and wait till Saturday to do my full wash, but my hair had other plans. When I got back from a meeting my scalp was itching so bad and my hair looked so ugh! I can't even explain how it looked. It just didn't look nice. So then I just did my co-wash today. I decided to detangle my hair with a pik because I feel like I had enough new growth that a regular wide tooth comb wouldn't do much use and my hair would end up dangled while washing. As I was washing I realized that my hair may have come to the point where I need to start washing in sections because it tangled up a bit. Nothing serious but I am not going to wait till my hair starts to matte up before I start washing in sections. That is going to take a lot of time from my "not enough time in the world" life but my hair needs it.

Good night Ladies!

Goals

Hello Beauties!

How are all of you doing? I hope well.

I want to tell you about a few goals that I set for myself to complete within the next couple of months. I never really set goals in the past and I think that is the reason why I have yet to reach my ultimate hair length. My first hair goal is to reach collar bone length by my next relaxer, which will be in march. That will end up being 3 months of growth so if all goes well I should grow about 1.5 inches. My second goal is to finally reach or be very close to APL by June 2011. That hopefully is enough time.

To reach my goals what will I be doing? Well I will of course be moisturizing and sealing my hair daily and wraping my hair at night. On the days I wear my hair down I will moisturize with my Cantu Shea butter leave in. On the days I wear a bun, which are usually after my cowash days, I will moisturize with just water by damp bunning. The oil I will be sealing my hair with is Hair Plus Natural Product Oil. This product along with its pomade comes directly from Haiti so I don't know if any of you ladies will be able to by it. I will use a mixture of the Hair Plus Natural Product Pommade, the Oil, and Sesame Oil to oil my scalp and massage it in at least 3 times a week. I will also continue to use my regimen until I reach a point where there is too much new growth or I feel as if I should tweek it a little bit.

Good Night!!

Ponytail Roller Set

Saturday was my wash day. As you all can tell I'm trying different ways of setting my hair after washing it, that way I do not use heat on my hair. Well I decided to do a ponytail roller set. The results came out very nice so I think this will be a weekly thing. I hope that the results are still nice once I get to an inch of new-growth. Right now I have about half an inch, so my hair is on schedule.

Below you will find pictures of my hair and explanations.

Image 1: I sectioned off a one inch row and clipped the rest of the hair up. I sectioned each row into more sections and used rubber bands to make mini ponytails. I used and rat-tail comb to smoothed down the new-growth and detangle the relaxed ends. In total I had about 14 ponytails and rollers in my hair.
Image 2: I let my hair air dry for most of the time. Towards the end I went under my hooded dryer for a few minutes. This is what my hair looked like once I took the rollers out but the mini ponies were still in.
Image 3: That how my hair looked like once I used my shower comb to loosen the curls. I pinned the side up just to see if there was any diversity with the curls. What do you ladies think? Should I wear my hair this way one day. Of course I would straighten out the crinkles from the ponytails though.
Image 4: This was the final result the next day from wrapping my hair up the night before. I used my curling iron to remove the crinkles from the visable parts of my hair and then curled my bangs just a little.

Ponytail Roller Set, Roller Set

All in all I really think this was a success. I did try this once before and didn't like how it came out so I decided to try smaller ponytails and it worked like a charm. I really like the results. Looks just like it would if I used my curling iron all through my hair but this way is way more healthier for my hair. After a month of doing this I will give an update on how my hair looks and if it seems to have gotten thicker or is breaking less.

I did find this method to be less harmful than doing a wet wrap. I had so much less breakage and much better results.

Good Night Ladies and Peace and Blessings to you and your loved ones!!!! =D

FAIL!

Hey Beauties!

Last night I co-washed my hair. I wanted to try something new so instead of air drying my hair in a bun  I decided to do a wet wrap and sat under the dryer for 20 minutes and then go to bed. Well.....  I feel like it was an epic fail. It was doing more harm than it was good. I had so much breakage and I'm not really sure how to fix it for next time. Maybe I didn't detangle as much as I should have. Also I am 4 weeks post and have a lot of new growth so that could have also been a factor in the breakage.

Update

[NOTE: This was written on Thursday January 13, 2011]

Hey Beauties!

This isn't going to be a long post because I am reading for my Ethnobotany class. I wanted to come and give you an update about how Boarding School and my new regimen are going.

Well I haven't been moisturizing and sealing as often as I would like. Even though the semester just started, school is getting in the way of my healthy hair journey; I now need to find a balance for everything.

I have been drinking water and tea, but i haven't worked out this week. Hopefully I'll be able to tomorrow night.

As for my regimen, last night was the first cowash. While I was washing my hair it felt so soft. I am absolutely loving VO5 Moisture Milks Strawberries and Cream. I'm addicted to the smell and want to eat it every time I open the bottle. I used my Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in, sealed with Hair Plus Natural Product Oil, did a wet bun, wrapped my hair in a satin cap and went to sleep. When I woke up this morning my har was still a little damp so I took the bun down to let it finish air drying.

Then I did my protective style for the day. I made a French braid from the top of my left ear to the bottom right of my head. I made a side fishtail pony with some tracked hair and curled my bang on the lowest setting. It looks very cute and I will most likely bee leaving it in for the next few days.

Good night ladies and be good.

Post Relaxer Reggie

Post Relaxer Reggie Dec 17, 2010 - Jan 7, 2011
  • Wash hair once a week
  • Protein Deep Condition every other week
  • Moisture Deep Condition weekly
  • Air dry hair
  • Flat Iron hair once a week
  • Moisturize and seal daily
  • Grease/ Oil Scalp once a week while flat ironing hair
  • Nightly wrap hair with satin bonnet
  • Wear protective styles 50-80% of the time

NOTE: I am being very lenient with my Post Relaxer Regiment because it is Christmas break and I'm home for the holidays. I don't have school and I don't leave the house much so I know my hair will be wrapped up most of the time. I haven't learned how to do my own roller set yet, but I'm practicing. Once I get that down packed I won't have to flat iron my hair as often. Also I can't have my mom give me a roller set because I couldn't bring my hooded dryer with me.

Products to Maximize Hair Growth

Hey Beauties!

I was just surfing youtube today and came across this young lady. I really like her videos and I think you all should check her out, especially if you appreciate a very down to earth woman. I love that she isn't emphasizing on the length of your hair but rather the quality of your hair. I feel like hair is hair and all types of hair can be long if you take care of it. She recently went from Natural to Relaxed and I respect her for that, just as every else should. She loved her natural hair but it just wasn't working for her at this point in her life.

This is a video she posted on her youtube account NaturalhairGrwthShow about what type of products we all need in our Hair Growth Supply Closet. If you have no clue of where to start your regimen be sure to watch this video and take notes.

Boarding School is officially in session!

It is the official start of Boarding School Spring 2011. You can find all the information regarding this challenge on the Challenge Page. When the challenge has officially ended you will be able to find the information here.

I'm sorry excited for this challenge. I think it is exactly what I needed to get back on my HHJ! Like I said this morning, I needed to find some type of inspiration and I did. It was an old challenge on Hairlista called the Long Hair Academy. This inspired me to create my very own challenge that would be easy enough for me to do but at the same time give me great results. I guess you can say the Long Hair Academy is the big sister to Boarding School, lol.

Since this is my first challenge, and first time being Head Mistress, I know there are a lot that I can improve on for the fall semester. I hope you all join and we have a wonderful journey together.
-------------------------------------------------------
As part of the challenge we are supposed to moisturize and seal daily. So today I just did a damp bun and allowed my hair to air dry fully. Now I am going to take down my bun to oil and massage my scalp for about 10 minutes. When finished I will put it back into a bun and put on my satin cap so my hair is protected while lounging around the house. If I need to leave the house for any reason my hair will already be done.

Morning Update

My 2011 Healthy Hair Journey isn't going too well. My hair is breaking and I'm not sure why. I need to come up with a new regimen. It'll be posted within the next few days. It's upsetting that I've been on my journey for two years and all that has happened was that I got to full shoulder length and my hair got thinker. But I am starting over but I don't know how any more. I need to go back to researching hair care. My goal is to get to APL and I won't ever acheive that if I keep forgetting to wrap my hair at night, which I did every night this week. I need to find some type of inspiration to keep me going.

What Did I Do?

Hey beauties!

How are you doing? I'm doing fine. I actually just left the house and am out running a few errands with my mom and then going to Dazzling practice. Dazzling is the dance team at my church.

All I did today was moisturize my hair with S-curl let it air dry and then put it in a messy/puffy bun. My phone doesn't take clear pictures so i might not be able to add one, so instead I'll explain what I did.
1. Make a pony tail.
2. Separate the hair into four or more sections.
3. Use a bobby pin to pin each section down as if you creating a pin curl.
The end result should be a hallow bun that bounces back when you push on it.
